Medical Microbiology — Bacteriology / Mycology / Parasitology
The Bacteriology Section provides reference and clinical services such as identification, confirmation and serotyping of bacterial pathogens. This provides epidemiological data on tracking organisms involved in outbreaks.
- Salmonella species
- Shigella species
- Shiga-toxin producing E.coli
- Haemophilus Influenzae
- Neisseria meningitidis
The Mycology Section tests reference cultures for the presence of any of the medically important cutaneous, subcutaneous and systemic fungi and yeast.
The Parasitology Section accepts diagnostic specimens for examination for the presence of human intestinal parasites. Testing for Cryptosporidium and Cyclospora are offered upon request.
