Healthy Relationships Cross-Program Evaluation

Since 2021, the South Dakota Department of Health (SD DOH), Office of Lifespan Health, has led the development and implementation of the Healthy Relationships Cross-Program Evaluation. SD DOH partners with South Dakota State University’s Population Health Evaluation Center to support evaluation design, data collection, analysis, and reporting.

This initiative was established to better understand the collective impact of adolescent healthy relationship programs across South Dakota. The evaluation measures shared outcomes, identifies trends, and supports data-driven decision-making to strengthen programs. By aligning efforts across initiatives, the evaluation helps ensure services are effective, coordinated, and responsive to the needs of South Dakota youth.

Annual Report

Each year, a Healthy Relationships Cross-Program Evaluation Report is developed to summarize key findings, highlight successes, and identify opportunities for improvement. The report includes data from common measures, participant feedback, and program outcomes.

Evaluation findings are used to support:

  • Program planning – Guides future programming, outreach efforts, and resource allocation.
  • Training and technical assistance – Supports facilitators and community partners through targeted training opportunities.
  • Continuous quality improvement – Identifies strengths and opportunities for growth within Healthy Relationships programs.
  • Prioritization – Helps determine where programs can have the greatest impact on South Dakota youth.
  • Collaboration – Strengthens coordination among partners to expand access to Healthy Relationships programming across the state.
