The Organic Chemistry Laboratory, analyzes drinking water, ground water, surface water and biological materials for organic contaminants such as:
- Insecticides
- Herbicides
- Haloacetic acids
- Trihalomethanes
- Volatile organic compounds
While trace amounts of certain organic compounds are common, many elements can cause damaging effects to the nervous system and kidneys and can lead to cancer risks if the exposure/contaminant level is too high.
These analyses are performed using EPA methods:
- Method 504/258
- Method 515/209
- Method 547/211
- Method 548/212
- Method 525/245
- Method 531/210
- Method 549/213
- Method 524/2
- Method 524/3
- Method 552
