Continuing Education Overview
To support practitioners participating in the South Dakota Medical Cannabis Program, we have compiled recommended educational resources and guidance. While these courses are not mandatory, they are strongly encouraged to help ensure compliance with state requirements and enhance patient care.
State Requirements
South Dakota law requires practitioners to maintain a bona fide patient relationship and comply with documentation and certification standards as outlined in SDCL § 34-20G-1(2).
Continuing Education Recommendation
We recommend that South Dakota practitioners complete a minimum of 4 hours of cannabis-related education annually. Suggested topics include:
- Legal and Regulatory Compliance – 1 hour
- Clinical Applications and Contraindications – 1 hour
- Pharmacology of Cannabinoids – 1 hour
- Patient Counseling and Ethics – 1 hour
