Regional and statewide drills and exercises are a major emphasis of the South Dakota Hospital Preparedness Program (HPP). Exercises conducted by HPP are Homeland Security Exercise Evaluation Program (HSEEP) compliant and are developed using a foundation that provides the framework for the design and development, conduct, and evaluation of exercises as well as improvement planning.
Communications drills are held regularly to test multiple systems including the South Dakota Health Alert Network (SDHAN) and the state digital system. Hospitals, clinics, and response partners are encouraged to participate. HPP-sponsored regional and statewide tabletop, functional and full-scale exercises are conducted annually.
