Our Health Protection website has been refreshed to make it easier for you to find the information you need. Visit the Health Protection homepage to access licensing requirements, inspection details, forms, guidance documents, and frequently asked questions. We encourage you to check the site regularly. Most answers can now be found quickly and clearly without needing to contact the department.

Online Applications – Effective July 1, 2026

As of July 1, 2026, all license applications must be submitted through our online system. Online applications are faster, more secure, and help prevent common errors that can delay approval. Submitting electronically also helps ensure all required information is accurately captured the first time, reducing back‑and‑forth and speeding up processing.

Listserv Options

Health Protection now offers license‑specific listservs to help you receive timely, relevant updates. Sign up by going to our email subscriptions page or through any license-specific page. Subscribing ensures you won’t miss important reminders, legislative updates, or program changes.

Change of Ownership Reminder

Per SDCL 34‑18‑15, a license cannot be transferred to a new owner or to a new location. Any change in ownership or relocation requires the purchase of a new license through proper application and fee payment. If you have questions about ownership changes, contact the Health Protection advisor for your region.
