NOTICE: Nursing Facility Bed Availability
SB 61 from the 2019 legislative session provided that if an existing nursing facility ceases operation, the authorized beds from that existing facility will be held available by the Department of Health for eighteen months from the closure date and shall be available for use by an entity licensed to operate a nursing facility. There are currently 0 beds available for redistribution within 18 months of closure. However, there are 991 beds available through Request for Proposal (RFP). Annual Report on the Need for Additional Nursing Facility Beds or Nursing Facilities, 2024
In accordance with state law, the Department of Health, with assistance from the Department of Human Services annually considers the need for additional beds or nursing facilities in the State. If a need for additional beds or nursing facilities is identified, the Department of Health is required to solicit and evaluate proposals to address the identified need. Any facility that receives redistributed beds, or any authorized new facility, is required by law to maintain minimum Medicaid occupancy rates.
