What is LIFEPAK?
The LIFEPAK is a series of advanced cardiac monitors/defibrillators used by EMS personnel to diagnose and treat cardiac emergencies. The latest model, LIFEPAK 15 v4, can record vital signs, respiratory metrics, and cardiac rhythm while providing defibrillation therapy and other treatments. The South Dakota Department of Health (SDDOH) is investing $11.6 million to equip 345 ambulances with LIFEPAK 15 v4 devices to improve emergency medical services in the state of South Dakota.
What is the goal?
Ensure that everyone in South Dakota has access to high-quality healthcare, regardless of their location or income. We believe that by investing in the latest technology and comprehensive training, we can improve the lives of our fellow South Dakotans and build a healthier, more resilient community.

Comprehensive Training and Distribution
Comprehensive training, distribution, and support are critical components of the LIFEPAK initiative, as they ensure that EMS personnel are equipped to use the LIFEPAK 15 v4 device effectively. The SDDOH is providing comprehensive training to EMS personnel on how to use the LIFEPAK 15 v4 device. This training ensures that EMS personnel are familiar with the device's capabilities and can use it efficiently in emergency situations. The SDDOH is also distributing LIFEPAK devices statewide, ensuring that every ambulance has access to this lifesaving technology. As of January 23, 2023, 98% of ambulance services in South Dakota have expressed interest in the initiative. By providing comprehensive training, distribution, and support for the LIFEPAK initiative, the SDDOH is taking a significant step toward improving emergency medical services in the state.
