CDC Names Mitchell Doctor Childhood Immunization Champion

Dr. Christine Arnold, a pediatrician at Sanford Health in Mitchell, has been named a Childhood Immunization Champion by the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). The CDC Childhood Immunization Champion Award recognizes individuals who go above and beyond to promote immunization among children in their communities.

Fifteen South Dakota Department of Health staff were recently recognized in the agency’s annual Secretary’s Awards Program. Awards were given in three categories: employee excellence, outstanding contribution to public health and the rising star award. The recipients of the awards are listed below.

Clayton Appointed State Epidemiologist

Secretary of Health Kim Malsam-Rysdon announced today that Dr. Joshua Clayton will serve as South Dakota’s next state epidemiologist. Clayton replaces Dr. Lon Kightlinger who retired earlier this month after serving 20 years with the Department.
