The federal Protection and Affordable Care Act requires all states to provide consumers with access to current survey inspection reports for nursing facilities participating in Medicare and Medicaid.
This site provides reports for all of the nursing facilities in South Dakota. The inspection reports are referred to as the Statement of Deficiencies (Form 2567). The reports include the facilities' Plans of Correction to address identified health deficiencies as well as the latest Life Safety Code survey report and state licensure report. If any complaint surveys have been conducted by the department those surveys are provided in a separate report.
Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS)
CMS oversees the Medicare and Medicaid programs. Nursing facilities that provide services under these programs must be certified as meeting federal minimum requirements established by Congress. To receive payment under the Medicare and Medicaid programs, nursing facilities must be in compliance with the requirements at 42 CFR Part 483, Subpart B.
Certification is achieved through routine facility surveys conducted by the South Dakota Department of Health, Office of Health Care Facilities Licensure and Certification through a contract with CMS. Additionally, the Administrative Rules of South Dakota, Article 44:73, Nursing Facilities, require all nursing facilities to obtain a license from the department.

South Dakota Healthcare Workforce Report, 2018
Recognizing the importance of a highly trained and available healthcare workforce, the South Dakota Department of Health established the Healthcare Workforce Center to help address the healthcare workforce needs of the State. The purpose of the Center is to function as a clearinghouse for healthcare workforce-related data and information. The Center is also designed to develop and implement programs and projects that assist individuals, agencies and facilities in their efforts to ensure a competent and qualified healthcare workforce to meet the health needs of all South Dakota residents.
