A Beagle Dachshund mix puppy approximately 3 months of age in Agency Village has tested positive for rabies and health officials are urging individuals who may have been bitten, scratched or in contact with the puppy’s saliva to call the state Department of Health or their physician to determine whether rabies shots are needed.

First Human West Nile Virus Detection of 2019 Reported

A Turner County resident is South Dakota’s first human West Nile virus (WNV) detection of the season, the state Health Department reported today. The person is in the 30 to 39 age group.

Health Department Awards $500,000 For Mosquito Control (2019)

More than 200 South Dakota cities, counties and tribes will share in $500,000 in grants intended to control mosquitoes and prevent West Nile virus (WNV), the Department of Health announced today.

Hepatitis A Identified In Keystone Food Handler

A case of Hepatitis A has been reported in a food handler employed at two Keystone restaurants. Individuals who ate at the Keystone Subway between May 2 and May 14 or at the Keystone Turtle Town between May 6 and May 13 should contact their health care provider to determine if they need a shot of hepatitis A vaccine or immune globulin to decrease risk of illness.
