Continuing Education Requirements to Renew
a South Dakota Nursing Facility Administrator License

Forty hours of approved continuing education are required by December 31 of each even numbered year. 

Approved continuing education includes:

  • Academic courses pertaining to health care or business administration offered by an accredited higher education institution and earned as college credit;

  • Programs approved by other state licensing boards for nursing facility administrators

  • Programs approved by the National Association of Long Term Care Administrator Boards (NAB)

  • Programs offered by the following:

    • American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE)

    • American College of Health Care Administrators (ACHCA)

    • American Health Care Association (AHCA) and State Affiliates

    • American Hospice Foundation, American Hospital Association (AHA) and State Affiliates

    • American Medical Directors Association

    • Catholic Health Association

    • Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS)

    • Leading Age (formerly AAHSA) and State Affiliates

    • National Rural Health Association

    • Systems of care that operate South Dakota nursing home facilities (i.e. Good Samaritan, Sanford, etc). 

 The Board does not limit the number of online courses that a licensee can take.  Courses relating to the computer system(s) of your facility will not be accepted.
