The general microbiology laboratory performs bacteriology testing including: Salmonella serotyping, Shigella serotyping,
E coli 0157:H7 typing and confirmation,
Campylobacter confirmation, Bordetella pertussis
culture, gonorrhea culture, diphtheria isolation and
identification, Neisseria meningitis serogrouping,
and stool culture for enteric pathogens.
Testing is done for Giardia, Cryptosporidium and other parasites.
The lab provides identification of yeast and fungi from reference isolates.
