Contact the State Laboratory before shipping a specimen.
Send the specimen to the laboratory using an overnight delivery service. Use a carrier that will provide for notification of receipt. This is required so that packages can be tracked and undelivered packages may be located quickly.
Package and label the specimen following appropriate regulations for shipping infectious substances. Regulations vary with the carrier and method of shipment. Contact your carrier about their specific regulations.
