South Dakota Healthcare Workforce Center
Welcome to the South Dakota Healthcare Workforce Center. Projections indicate that thousands of additional healthcare workers will be needed in the healthcare industry in South Dakota in the near future. In addition, there will be a substantial decrease in the number of high school graduates in our state. At the same time as the number of young people decreases, the number of elderly is increasing significantly. By the year 2025, South Dakota is projected to have the 9th highest portion of elderly nationally. To help address South Dakota's health care workforce needs, the Department of Health established the South Dakota Healthcare Workforce Center. The purpose of the Center is to function as a clearinghouse for health care workforce-related data and information. The Center is also designed to develop and implement programs and projects that assist individuals, agencies and facilities in their efforts to address current and projected workforce needs.
Vision: Building and sustaining South Dakota's healthcare workforce through public/private partnerships.
Mission: To ensure a competent and qualified healthcare workforce that meets the health needs of all South Dakota residents.
