West Nile Virus Infographic. South Dakota has the greatest number of west nile virus incidents. 20% of infected people develop fever, other symptoms. 1 of 150 cases develop serious, potentially fatal illness.

West Nile Virus Surveillance

The first human WNV case has been reported in Walworth county. The West Nile virus positive mosquito pools have been detected this year in Brookings, Codington, Hughes, and Lincoln counties.

SD WNV (as of July 21):  1 human case reported (Walworth) and 4 counties with positive mosquito pools (Brookings, Codington, Hughes, Lincoln)

US WNV (as of July 13):  11 cases (AR, AZ, IA, ND, TX) and 1 death
