The South Dakota TB Control Program is responsible for conducting a contact investigation around each infectious TB case in order to identify and offer intervention to those individuals who were exposed. All TB skin tests recommended by the Department of Health to contacts will be provided free of charge to the patient. Employees in health care facilities and other employment sites who were exposed will work with their employer to receive follow-up. Contacts who reside in tribal areas may have their TB skin tests and follow-up activities offered by the local Indian Health Service.
The South Dakota TB Control Program conducts contact investigation in accordance with the guidelines developed by the Centers for Disease Control Program which can be reviewed at this link.
