Notice of Adoption of administrative Rules

Following a public hearing on October 4, 2022, the board adopted amendments to rules in Chapter 20:48:01; Chapter 20:48:04.01; and Chapter 20:48:16.  Changes become provisionally effective on November 27, 2022.

Summary of changes:
  • Updated definitions used in Article 20:48;
  • Revised and updated rules on the delegation of medication administration tasks to nursing assistive personnel, including training and supervision requirements;
  • Removed the registration requirement for diabetes aides to be listed on the SDBON unlicensed personnel registry;
  • Removed the requirement for all medication aides to be registered by the board; as of November 27, 2022 will only require medication aides employed in skilled nursing facilities (SNF), assisted living centers (ALC), and hospitals to be registered with the board.  More information will be listed on the board's Medication Aide web page

Notice of Adoption of Administrative Rules

Following a public hearing on May 11, 2022, the board adopted amendments to ARSD 20:48:04:02.04, Chapters 20:48:04.02 and 20:48:16.  Changes became provisionally effective July 6, 2022.

Summary of changes: 
  • Repealed ARSD 20:48:04:02.04, an outdated rule on LPN dialysis training; 
  • Amended Chapter 20:48:04.02, updated the training requirements and delegation of nursing tasks to dialysis technicians; including added rules to allow a registered nurse to delegate central line dialysis tasks to a dialysis technician, including the training and supervision requirements; and
  • Amended Chapter 20:48:16 to remove registration requirements for dialysis technicians by the board.
