Nursing Education Scholarship Program
 
 
 
 
 
Scholarship money distributed through this program is generated from a $10 fee charged to each nurse upon renewal of a South Dakota RN and LPN license. The number and amount of each scholarship awarded is determined annually by the SDBON, not to exceed $1,000 per student per academic year. Scholarship money may be used for direct education expenses such as tuition, books, and fees. Scholarship money may not be used for expenses for room and board, these types of expenses are not considered direct educational expenses.
 
 

Eligibility & Instructions

Applicants must meet the following qualifications:

  1. Be a United States citizen and a South Dakota resident for a minimum of one year immediately preceding the date of application.

  2. Be accepted into a board-approved nursing education program for licensed practical nurses or registered nurses, whether leading to initial nurse licensure or degree enhancement.  

  3. Have or maintain a satisfactory GPA for progression in the nursing education program as verified by the nursing program.  

  4. Have financial need as verified by the institution's financial aid office.

  6. Submit a completed Scholarship Application:

    • RN Applicants: Submit by June 1st of the year in which the application is to be considered. Awardees will be selected during the next SDBON meeting. All applicants will be notified of selection. Scholarship payments will be made at the start of the fall semester.

    • LPN Applicants: Submit by October 1st of the year in which the application is to be considered. Awardees will be selected during the next SDBON meeting. All applicants will be notified of selection. Scholarship payments will be made at the start of the spring semester.
