Increasing the number of RNs holding a baccalaureate or higher degree is a key recommendation in the Institute of Medicine's(IOM) 2010 The Future of Nursing: Leading Change, Advancing Health report. South Dakota is moving forward in meeting this challenge, RNs prepared with a baccalaureate or higher degree comprised 64.4% of the active RN population in 2018, an increase of 25.4% from 2009.
