Unlicensed Dialysis Technician (UDT)

Registry status implies only that an unlicensed individual has met the minimal training and testing requirements necessary to accept delegated tasks by a licensed nurse while under a nurse's supervision. Registry status does not imply that an individual has met moral, ethical, or legal standards. The registry should not take the place of an employer's hiring screening process or background check.

Unlicensed Dialysis Technician (UDT) Registration:


1. Submit completed Initial Dialysis Technician Registration Application to the South Dakota BON. Allow up to 5-7 business days for the SDBON to process your application.


Notification of approval will not be mailed out. 

Allow 5-7 business for the South Dakota Board of Nursing to process your application.

Certification as a Dialysis Technician with one of the three organizations listed below is required for registration.
Contact the certification organization directly for questions on their exam or registration information.

Registration Renewal:

Dialysis Technician Registration will remain active for two years after the date of issue.

Renewals can be submitted 90 days prior to your expiration date.

UDT Renewal Process:

  • A renewal notice and application will be sent to the last known address for each registered UDT 90 days prior to expiration.

Registration renewal information must be received by the South Dakota Board of Nursing office by your expiration date or your registration will lapse. You are responsible to maintain registration whether or not you receive a renewal notice.

Please follow instructions carefully to avoid delays in processing your renewal. If any information is incorrect, incomplete or illegible, processing may be delayed. You will be notified if additional information is required.

To RENEW your Unlicensed Dialysis Technician (UDT) registration, please submit the completed Unlicensed Dialysis Technician (UDT) Registry Renewal Application. At this time UDT Renewal is not offered online.

Please Note: Maintaining active certification as a Dialysis Technician with one of the three organizations listed below is required for renewal.

You will be notified via mail when your registration has been renewed.
