CNM Licensure Procedures
 
 
 
 

Practice Authority  To practice full scope, as defined in SDCL 36-9A-13, without a collaborative agreement, an applicant for a new license must complete and submit the Practice Verificaiton Form to verify practice as a licensed CNM for a minimum of 1,040 hours.

 

If an applicant cannot verify 1,040 hours of licensed practice, the applicant is required to submit a Collaborative Agreement with a SD licensed physician or SD licensed CNM.  

 

Prescribing Upon licensure, CNM's may prescribe, procure, furnish, and administer over-the-counter, legend, and controlled substance drugs, schedules II-IV, according to federal and state registration requirements. Click here for more information.

 

Out-of-Hospital (OOH) Birth Practice  Prior to attending OOH births, a SD licensed CNM must agree to follow the CNM OOH Birth Practice Guidelines.
