NOTICE: The SDBON is committed to maintaining clean, disinfected areas for staff and visitors.  To help ensure safety, if you are planning to come to the office you may do so on weekdays from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM (CT).  Please keep social distancing guidelines in mind as you enter the enclosed lobby area; if you want to meet face-to-face with Board staff, please call ahead to make an appointment.  You will need to complete a screening before entering staff areas.  Please do not come to the office if you have symptoms of illness.  Thank you for your help in decreasing the spread of COVID-19.   

Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) Information
  • Employers: Governor Noem issued emergency Executive Order 2020-07 (and 2020-26) which recognizes licenses from other states until December 30, 2020 (unless sooner terminated or extended). This order allows LPNs, RNs, APRNs to practice in SD using an active license from another state; the nurse does not need to gain a SD license.  Employers are encouraged to verify the licensure status of nurses free of charge at www.nursys.com to ensure that a nurse holds an active, unencumbered state license or a multi-state license.  Contact our office with questions.

  • Free online COVID-19 courses for nurses and students from NCSBN. Courses focus on epidemiology, modes of transmission, nursing care, legal and ethical issues, and credible health information.  
  • Volunteer to assist your community or state, register to join the Department of Health's Statewide Emergency Registry of Volunteers in South Dakota (SERV SD).  Participation is optional, you decide at the time a call is made if you are willing and able to volunteer.
