The EMS Agenda for the Future: A System Approach

Rapid City Fire Department ambulanceEducation Standards and Transition Courses

The EMS Agenda for the Future: A Systems Approach is comprised of four main elements: National EMS Core Content, National EMS Scope of Practice, National EMS Education Standards, and National EMS Certification and Program Accreditation. The EMS Agenda for the Future has been evolving over the past decade. We, the EMS Community, are now preparing for the transition phase. Starting Jan 1, 2012, EMS courses will be taught using the Education Standards instead of the National Standard Curricula (NSC). Furthermore, all current EMS providers must transition from the NSC to the new Education Standards. EMS providers will have two reregistration cycles to complete a state approved transition course with the exception of the Intermediate/99's who will have three reregistration cycles. The information below will assist both educators and EMS providers through this transition.
