The Emergency Medical Services Program reviews and approves BLS continuing education training to ensure that it is appropriate for recertification purposes following the National Continued Competency Program (NCCP) and National Registry’s EMR and EMT Recertification requirements.

All agencies or training centers offering BLS continuing education are required to submit the BLS Continuing Education Application form to the EMS Program at least 30 days prior to the beginning of the training date.

Application for BLS Training Approval

Procedure:

  1. Complete the BLS Continuing Education application form above.  The course agenda, instructor's name, contact information, and a brief description is necessary in order to determine the appropriate recertification category and number of credit hour(s) each topic fulfills. If you have a formal agenda for the class/course, please include it with your application. A continuing education hour is based on 50 minutes of participation.

  2. The EMS Program will review the application and provide a certificate of attendance form to the sponsoring agency that includes the category and the number of credit hour(s) each topic fulfills.

  3. The sponsoring agency provides the attending EMR or EMT verification of attendance by handing out the certificate of attendance for the training attended.  The EMR or EMT is responsible for keeping track of their own training attended, training certificates, etc. and recording their training in their online State EMS account.

  4. The sponsoring agency provides a sign-up sheet at the end of the training for EMRs and EMTs in attendance to sign. This form is then kept on file by the training agency and will be made available to the EMS Program upon request.
