South Dakota Immunization Workgroup
The federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has announced significant changes in the way states may use the federal vaccine funding provided to them. South Dakota has been planning for these changes and is positioned to maintain the current ordering system vaccine providers are familiar with until July 1, 2014. There will be no change in vaccine eligibility at this time.
In addition, the Department of Health has formed an immunization workgroup of public and private providers, insurance companies, and state agencies to make recommendations for implementing the federal changes while maintaining or improving childhood vaccination coverage levels. The department will also be surveying all vaccine providers about immunization barriers and difficulties.
