Nurse Case Management
All patients started on Department of Health TB medication are assigned to a Department of Health nurse who provides case management activities for the patient. These activities include the following:
- medication distribution
- patient education
- medication side effects assessment
- compliance checks
- other physician directed management activities
This is provided to patients who are receiving treatment for active tuberculosis or latent TB infection. If necessary, nurse case managers may be able on a selected basis to provide direct supervision of the patient's therapy (i.e. twice weekly supervised therapy). This must be coordinated through the Tuberculosis Control Program Coordinator and prescribed by the patient's physician. This service will be determined by the priority of the patient based on their individual risk factors.
