How often is the state examination given?

The examination is given in conjunction with the board meetings which are held 3 times a year. However, you must be approved by this board in order to sit for the examination.  You may take the examination before completing all the licensure requirements but most have a completed application on file with the Board.

What is the difference between the Board of Funeral Service and the South Dakota Funeral Association?

The Board of Funeral Service has as its main goal protection of the public by regulating the professionals it licenses.  The Funeral Association is an organization that promotes the funeral profession.

How do I obtain a list of licensed funeral directors/embalmers and funeral establishments?

Please send to the board office your request along with a stamped ($1.29) self-addressed, large envelope.  Mailing labels and disks are not available.
