Healthcare Workforce Summit

In August 2006, the Departments of Education, Health and Labor sponsored South Dakota's first ever Healthcare Workforce Summit. This summit focused on issues related to increasing and stabilizing South Dakota's healthcare workforce. The primary goal was to bring together individuals with a vested interest in our healthcare workforce. Participants were asked to help develop recommendations and strategies which addressed our critical need for healthcare workers. The 2006 Summit Summary Report details the action steps recommended for addressing South Dakota's healthcare workforce issues.

Action teams were formed in four areas - Education Program Capacity/Clinicals, Healthcare Professional Recruitment and Retention, Pipeline, and Student Perception and Awareness. These teams were charged with continuing the work begun at the summit and further developing and refining recommendations made at the summit.

A follow-up summit was held July 24 in Pierre to highlight past accomplishments, present projects and current endeavors that address the critical need for healthcare workers in South Dakota. To access the presentations from that summit, click on the links in this document.
