Rural Healthcare Facility Recruitment Assistance Program

(formerly known as the Health Professional Recruitment Incentive Program)

During the 2012 Legislative Session, Governor Dennis Daugaard introduced legislation to enhance the recruitment of healthcare professionals to facilities across South Dakota.   SB 176 was signed by the Governor on March 1, 2012, establishing the Rural Healthcare Facility Recruitment Assistance Program..

The signed legislation will provide a $10,000 payment to eligible health professionals who complete a three-year, full-time service commitment.  The health professional must enter into a three-way contract between the employing facility and the state.   Eligible facilities must be located in a community with a population of 10,000 or less.

Nurse (LPN or RN) Hospitals
Occupational therapist Nursing homes
Respiratory therapist Federal certified home health agencies
Laboratory technologist Chemical dependency treatment facilities
Pharmacist Intermediate care facilities for the mentally retarded
Physical therapist Community support providers
Paramedic Community mental health centers
Medical technologist ESRD facilities
Radiologic technologist Community health centers (FQHCs)
