South Dakota SANE/SART Training: None at this time.
In 2008, this training tool was provided to all South Dakota hospitals with emergency departments for training staff that provide services to sexual assault patients. It was also provided to all sexual assault crisis centers in South Dakota to use with training victim advocates. Advocates are generally called upon to help the victim understand what is happening during the collection of evidence so the hospital personnel can concentrate on completing the kit. Thus it is important that victim advocates have some training in sexual assault evidence collection as well.
This interactive program provides 12 hours of expert instruction for professionals and helps advance skills in all aspects of sexual assault forensic examinations, from the initial meeting, to the patient-centered medical examination and treatment, to proper collection and preparation of evidence, to pretrial and courtroom preparation.
