What does primary source verification mean?
The definition of Primary Source Verification is the act of obtaining the applicant's documentation directly from the original or primary source. Primary Source Verification cannot be faxed or emailed.

Notice: The SDBMOE has found that communicating directly with the applicant is more efficient and successful rather than relaying the message to those assisting the applicant including third party companies. Important licensure information sent second hand was being “lost in translation”. Not only is this process is too important to have misunderstandings due to miscommunication but the second hand messages were leading to serious delays in license issuance.

The applicant may request status updates for all applicant initiated documentation. The recommended time between applicant initiated status checks should be 2 to 3 weeks which allows for mailing and processing.  Anyone other than the applicant who requests an applicant initiated documentation status check will be directed to contact the applicant to receive this information.

Failure to follow the procedure outlined for each discipline will undoubtedly extend processing time.
