BOARD OF MASSAGE THERAPY PRACTICE ACT WORKGROUP

The South Dakota Board of Massage Therapy recently appointed a workgroup to review the massage therapy practice act and recommend any updates, additions or deletions to the act for possible legislation in 2016.  The intent of the recommendations is not to substantially change any qualifications for licensure or renewal.  Rather, the workgroup is to look at areas of the practice act that may need clarification and to identify obsolete provisions or areas that the practice act should address, but currently does not.

Board members Bridget Myers and Christine Ellwein are the members of the workgroup.  They would like to provide an opportunity for licensees to provide comments and suggestions on possible revisions to the practice act as a first step in beginning the review.

To begin this process, the workgroup will hold a conference call on Monday, June 1st at 5:00 pm (central) to take comments and suggestions from current and past licensees. You are invited to take part in this call and share your thoughts with the workgroup. To participate in the conference call, please contact the Board's office at 605-224-1721 or via e-mail at SDBMT@midwestsolutionssd.com to receive the call-in information.

We ask that you contact the Board for the call-in information, rather than sharing it with one another, so we can determine how many call-in lines we will need to have available. The Board hopes you will take this opportunity to share your constructive feedback on the practice act so the final recommendations of the workgroup can reflect the issues identified by licensees. We look forward to hearing from you on June 1st.

The mission of the South Dakota Board of Massage Therapy is to protect the health and safety of the public by mandatory licensure of qualified persons and enforcement of the statutes, rules, and regulations governing the practice of massage therapy, including processing and investigating properly filed complaints and holding hearings as warranted.
